Buyer Guide
How long does custom packaging sampling and production take?
By BLF Packaging · Published · Updated
A reliable packaging timeline is confirmed after the structure, artwork, materials, insert and order conditions are clear. Sampling, buyer approval, bulk production and transport are separate stages; a production estimate alone does not tell you when packaging will arrive.
Build the schedule around approval points
| Stage | Decision or check | Common dependency |
|---|---|---|
| Requirement review | Confirm contents, dimensions, quantity, channel and deadline | Missing product sizes or an incomplete component list |
| White sample | Check opening, size, insert layout and physical fit | Product samples or measured dimensions; structural revisions |
| Printed sample | Review artwork, color, finish and overall presentation | Usable artwork, material selection and finish areas |
| Approval and production | Agree the approved version and packing requirements | Written approval, material availability and production schedule |
| Shipping and arrival | Confirm dispatch, transport route and required arrival | Destination, packing plan and the agreed delivery arrangement |
Know what each sample can establish
A white sample is primarily for construction and fit. It does not approve printed color or a finished surface. A printed sample adds those appearance checks, but its production method and agreed purpose should be identified so the buyer knows what it represents.
Use the actual products to check insertion, removal and lid closure. Record revisions against one sample or artwork version. A late change to a bottle size, insert or finish can reopen a decision already used to plan production.
Send an actionable deadline brief
- State the date packaging must arrive and the destination; identify any immovable event.
- List which product sizes, artwork files and finishes are confirmed and which remain open.
- Name the person who will consolidate sample feedback and approve revisions.
- Ask which stage depends on your next decision and recheck timing after specification changes.
